28th January 2021 100,000 still sinking in. Day 308 since lockdown began in the UK

Empty streets of Chester. An older picture taken some time ago but reflecting lockdown now.

Still taking in how badly the pandemic has been in the UK. it is worse per head than the USA. They do not want us to make international comparisons but the numbers are pretty stark. Some countries handled the pandemic so much better than others. Feel free to check my mathematics and I will amend if required! I have taught population geography in the past and for many years and these sorts of international comparisons regarding death rates are very common. Obviously underlying factors need exploring but the USA and the UK have performed extraordinarily badly as the WHO table indicates.

Country Population Number of deaths Deaths per 100,000

USA 330,060,054 431,570 130.75

UK 66.796,907 100,062 149.80

NZ 5,101,400 84 1.65

Data sources: WHO, United States Census, UK Government and New Zealand Government

Need a public enquiry, or better, sooner rather than later although it will probably report the blindingly obvious. The UK Government did not do all it could.

Staying at home! – STILL Protecting the NHS – STILL saving lives

I AM STILL Keeping safe

Stay safe.
