20th January 2021 – What were you doing 4 years ago this day? Day 301 since lockdown began in the UK

Party time in our house today.

Happy day in our household. Trump has left the Whitehouse.

Mexican meal for dinner and this afternoon we are having party food and enjoying a few balloons and bunting while the inauguration is on. Lots of music selected by us and friends which we love and expect Trump hates. We will also be watching the news from Washington as a new president takes office. Without any great expectation we wish and hope President Biden does a good job dealing with the virus and building bridges and not walls.

Oona and Joseph on the Golden Gate Bridge
Lots of people out that day walking, running and cycling on the Golden Gate Bridge

We were in California for Trump’s inauguration back in 2016 visiting our son who through the Erasmus Scheme had spent a year at California State University East Bay expanding his experience of his studies and life in general. Erasmus was a wonderful scheme and young people will miss it. For Oona and I it was a trip of a lifetime and we got to meet some lovely Americans as we marched through San Francisco singing ‘ Hey Ho, hey ho, Trump has got to go!’ We also went on a road trip around California visiting the National Parks, getting as far as Arizona and the Grand Canyon.

One of those lovely people was our son studying at East Bay university for a year.

So what were we doing specifically four years ago today?

We were enjoying a wonderful City, San Francisco with our son. Apart from marching with the anti-Trumpers we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, rode on trams, and enjoying Chinese New Year in Chinatown, brilliant.

Here two people whom I love more than life itself cling on for dear life as we took a tram ride up the hills of San Francisco.

As always, just a few more of my thoughts.

AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE I WILL STAY AT HOME, KEEP THE 2m RULE AND WEAR A FACE MASK

Staying at home! – STILL Protecting the NHS – STILL saving lives

I AM STILL Keeping safe

Stay safe.
